A collection of solo piano compositions
Unforgotten is a calm and emotional piece inspired by the mystery of memory - how the mind quietly decides which moments stay with us for life. It is designed for reflective listening, quiet evenings and calm-focus environments.
Some memories fade. Others remain. This music is about those that remain.
My inspiration came from swimming across Eagle Lake in Canada. At first, the bottom disappears from view and you are left staring into dark, uncertain water — an uneasy and vulnerable feeling. Eventually, the body finds rhythm, the breath steadies, and the mind begins to wander calmly. As we approach the far shore, strokes become more focused and deliberate, and the final stretch brings a quiet sense of completion and peace. Crossing the Abyss mirrors that progression musically.
It serves as a metaphor in life when we enter untested waters; grief, transition, aging, or personal change.
Resolution Dream is a quiet solo piano neo-classical composition where the notes drift up and down in a dreamy fashion ending in a simple resolution.
December is a relaxing instrumental piece featuring piano, bass (Bob Arlidge) and cello (Jess Lindeman). The mood captures the feeling of watching gently falling snowflakes during the month of December.
"Shades of Donna" is a tribute album to my dedicated childhood classical piano teacher Donna Gobin. Thank you Donna for your encouragement and attention to detail. You have continued to be a huge influence in my life. Unfortunately, she passed away at a relatively young age. Since she has continued to be a huge influence throughout my life, I decided to record the pieces below that she either taught me or inspired me to learn.
First Sorrow is a touching piano piece where Schumann's music reveals the sadness, disbelief and anger often associated with a young person's first loss.
Melodie from Orfeo ed Euridice is a single from Shades of Donna. My Uncle Ross Johnson, a wonderful classical pianist, played this piece at a concert he gave in Toronto in 1978. I was captivated by the music then and finally did something about it.
